As a Principal Scientist within our dynamic Statistics and Data Science team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of medicine. You will leverage your deep expertise in biostatistics and advanced data science methodologies to drive the design, analysis, and interpretation of clinical studies and real-world data across various therapeutic areas. Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic statistical leadership and expertise for clinical development programs, from early-stage research through regulatory submission and post-market activities.
- Design innovative and robust clinical trials, including adaptive designs, Bayesian methods, and novel statistical approaches to optimize data collection and analysis.
- Lead the development and implementation of advanced statistical models and data science methodologies (e.g., machine learning, AI, predictive analytics) to extract insights from complex clinical, genomic, and real-world datasets.
- Oversee and perform rigorous statistical analyses, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and interpretability of results.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including clinicians, regulatory affairs, data management, and statistical programmers to ensure alignment on study design, analysis plans, and reporting.
- Contribute to the preparation of regulatory documents (e.g., INDs, NDAs, BLAs), scientific publications, and presentations, clearly communicating complex statistical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Drive the evaluation and adoption of new statistical software, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and analytical capabilities.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior statisticians and data scientists, fostering their professional growth and development.
- Act as a subject matter expert in internal and external scientific forums, representing Roche's statistical and data science capabilities.
- Ensure adherence to internal standard operating procedures, industry best practices, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., ICH, FDA, EMA).
Requirements & Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related quantitative field with at least 8 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry; or an M.S. with at least 12 years of relevant experience.
- Proven track record of significant contributions to clinical development programs, including successful regulatory interactions and submissions.
- Extensive hands-on experience in the design, analysis, and reporting of clinical trials (Phase I-IV) and observational studies.
- Deep expertise in a broad range of statistical methodologies, including survival analysis, mixed models, Bayesian statistics, causal inference, and non-parametric methods.
- Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R (preferred), SAS, and/or Python.
- Strong understanding of data science principles and practical experience with machine learning algorithms, predictive modeling, and handling large, complex datasets.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, innovate, and provide sound scientific judgment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex statistical concepts to non-statisticians.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
