Job Description Senior Data Governance & Insights Consultant ING

About This Role

At ING, we are committed to empowering people to stay a step ahead in life and in business. In an increasingly data-driven world, the quality, integrity, and strategic utilization of our data assets are paramount to achieving this mission. We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Senior Data Governance & Insights Consultant to join our dynamic COO Tech & Transformation domain. This pivotal role sits within the Reporting and Insights department, a core function responsible for delivering actionable intelligence, ensuring stringent data compliance, and enabling our Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to make informed, strategic decisions based on exceptionally high-quality information. The chosen candidate will report directly into the CDO Office, a specialized team within Reporting and Insights.

The CDO Office is instrumental in ensuring that ING's technology operations are underpinned by data that is not only meaningful and trusted but also fully compliant with internal policies and global regulatory standards. This team drives continuous improvement in our reporting processes, enhances the efficiency of data delivery mechanisms, and strengthens our overarching data management practices. All efforts are meticulously aligned with ING’s comprehensive global data standards, ensuring consistency and reliability across the enterprise. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape ING’s data landscape, influencing critical strategic initiatives and fostering a culture of data excellence, thereby directly contributing to the bank's operational resilience and strategic agility.

Key Responsibilities

  • **Develop and Deliver Strategic Insights:** Proactively analyze complex data sets to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, translating raw data into clear, actionable insights that directly support the CTO's strategic steering and broader business objectives. This includes creating compelling data visualizations and reports that facilitate executive-level decision-making.
  • **Ensure Robust Data Compliance:** Spearhead initiatives to ensure adherence to ING's stringent global data standards, regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, BCBS 239), and internal data governance frameworks. This involves monitoring compliance, identifying gaps, conducting impact assessments, and implementing corrective actions and preventative controls to mitigate data-related risks.
  • **Enhance Data Quality and Trust:** Drive programs focused on improving data quality across critical data domains. This responsibility includes defining and implementing data quality rules, establishing clear data lineage, managing comprehensive metadata, and implementing robust data validation processes to ensure the reliability and integrity of all information used for reporting and strategic decision-making.
  • **Optimize Reporting Processes:** Evaluate, streamline, and enhance existing reporting processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness. This may involve automating reports, standardizing reporting templates, implementing self-service analytics capabilities, and leveraging advanced visualization tools to present complex data effectively to diverse audiences.
  • **Improve Data Delivery Efficiency:** Collaborate closely with technology teams to optimize data pipelines, data architecture, and data access mechanisms. The goal is to ensure that relevant, high-quality data is delivered efficiently, securely, and in a timely manner to all necessary stakeholders, supporting both operational needs and strategic analytical requirements.
  • **Strengthen Data Management Practices:** Champion the adoption of best-in-class data management practices throughout the organization. This includes fostering a strong culture of data stewardship, promoting data literacy across various departments, and ensuring that all data-related activities align seamlessly with ING’s overarching global data strategy and principles.
  • **Contribute to the CDO Office Strategy:** Actively participate in the development and execution of the CDO Office's strategic roadmap, contributing expertise in data governance, data quality, and data insights to achieve departmental and broader organizational goals, driving continuous innovation in data capabilities.
  • **Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:** Build and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders across COO Tech & Transformation, IT, business units, and other data-related functions. Foster a collaborative environment to drive consensus on data initiatives, influence strategic directions, and ensure successful adoption of data governance frameworks and solutions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Extensive experience (typically 7+ years) in data governance, data management, data quality, data architecture, or business intelligence roles, with a significant focus on strategic insights and compliance, preferably within the financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated understanding and practical experience with global data standards, regulatory requirements (e.g., BCBS 239, GDPR, CCAR), and industry best practices in data management.
  • Proven ability to translate complex data requirements and regulatory mandates into actionable strategies and implement effective, scalable data solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an inherent ability to interpret large, complex datasets, identify critical trends, and provide meaningful, data-driven insights.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex data concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Experience in effective stakeholder management, including influencing, negotiating, and collaborating with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to achieve data-related objectives.
  • Familiarity with leading data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica Axon), data quality platforms, and business intelligence/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, QlikView) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities concurrently, and consistently deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced, dynamic, and evolving environment.
