As a Software Development Manager, you will be at the forefront of defining and implementing development standards, optimizing our software development lifecycle (SDLC), and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and robust applications that meet the evolving needs of our business and clients. You will serve as a key liaison between technical teams, internal business experts, and executive management, translating strategic objectives into actionable development plans and ensuring alignment across all stakeholders. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who is passionate about technology, committed to team growth, and driven to achieve operational excellence in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the comprehensive process of creating, documenting, and maintaining robust software development standards, guidelines, and best practices across all development teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for development processes, methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Kanban), and quality assurance practices to enhance efficiency, accelerate delivery cycles, and significantly reduce field-found defects.
- Act as a player/coach, providing hands-on technical guidance, code reviews, and architectural insights while simultaneously mentoring and developing team members.
- Collaborate extensively with other development leaders, product managers, internal business experts, and executive management to ensure that software delivery consistently meets and exceeds business needs and strategic expectations.
- Provide direct people leadership, mentorship, and performance management to the IT development team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and positive team culture, in close conjunction with the IT Technical Director.
- Work proactively with business stakeholders to gather detailed requirements, define technical specifications, and ensure successful translation of business objectives into technical solutions.
- Oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of complex software applications, ensuring adherence to architectural principles, security standards, and performance benchmarks.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables for multiple concurrent development initiatives, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Implement and advocate for modern software engineering practices, including continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), automated testing, and cloud-native development principles.
- Identify potential technical risks and challenges, developing mitigation strategies and communicating them effectively to relevant stakeholders.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Proven experience in a software development leadership role, demonstrating a successful track record as a player/coach.
- Strong background in leading and implementing software development standards and best practices.
- Demonstrated expertise in improving development processes and quality initiatives, resulting in increased efficiency and reduced defect rates.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with development leaders, internal business experts, and executive management.
- Solid experience in providing people leadership, including mentorship, performance management, and career development for IT teams.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver impactful software solutions.
- Deep understanding of the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and various agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
